Everything Grid.Local shows is an estimate for informational purposes only. Do not use it for billing, certification, regulatory reporting, or any commercial decision-making.
1. Grid carbon intensity
Regional and national carbon intensity figures come from the National Grid ESO Carbon Intensity API. These values are themselves modelled forecasts and back-calculations, with stated uncertainty. Half-hour periods are sometimes revised after the fact. We display the data as supplied and do not independently verify it.
2. Home energy readings
Import, export, solar and battery figures come from the GivEnergy and/or Octopus Energy APIs. These sources can:
- Return rounded or smoothed values rather than raw meter pulses.
- Have intermittent outages, gaps, or revisions that we cannot detect or correct.
- Drift from your physical smart meter or MID-certified meter readings.
Always treat your supplier’s official bill as the source of truth for billing.
3. Derived calculations
CO₂ figures, cost figures, “avoided emissions”, and the grid-balancing / battery-accounting models are computed from the inputs above using simplifying assumptions documented in the app. They may differ from values quoted by your supplier, energy auditor, or other tools. The two carbon-accounting models shown (battery FIFO and grid balancing) can disagree by design.
4. Tariff and cost figures
Cost calculations are based on the unit rates available via the Octopus Energy API at the time of the reading. Standing charges, VAT, fees, account-specific rates and out-of-band tariff corrections are not always reflected. Use your supplier’s statement for any financial decision.
5. Service availability
Grid.Local is a free hobby project provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We may change, pause or discontinue it at any time, and we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from its use or unavailability.

Nothing on Grid.Local constitutes energy, financial, environmental, regulatory or legal advice. Consult a qualified professional before making investment, retrofit or compliance decisions.
